An online survey conducted by TeamAsia, that was commissioned by Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPAP) and Outsource2Philippines (O2P) has thrown up some interesting items
According to BPAP, 93 percent of respondents said that the upcoming national elections would affect in varying degrees investor perception of the Philippines and its Business Process Outsourcing sector. Presidential elections, legislative elections and local elections in the Philippines will be held on Monday, May 10, 2010.
There are currently more than 85,000 candidates for only 17,000 national and local positions, and it is believed that the youth will have the swing vote in this election as 40% of voters are 18-35 and there are a potential 3 million first-time voters.
With just a few days to go before election day, and judging by the latest survey results, it looks like there will be a change in administration and the presidency will be given to Benigno ‘Noynoy’ Aquino III, with a solid majority.
Almost half (49 percent) of respondents even replied that the impact would be “very significant.”
Likewise, 93 percent said smooth transition of power would be significant in generating positive investor and client perception of the Philippines.
Also, survey results showed that 34 percent of respondents indicated that tight labor market was their number one concern when it came to promoting Philippine BPO services. This figure was up from the 23 percent recorded in a similar survey conducted in October last year.
“People issues are still a top concern. In the short term, it is important that the elections take place in a transparent and credible fashion to improve investor perception,” Oscar Sañez, BPAP CEO said in a statement.
